The Senior Finance Analyst is responsible for providing advanced financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting support, and business insights to the Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation (TIC) and its subsidiaries. The role supports strategic decision-making by analyzing operational and financial performance, identifying trends, and recommending methods to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve profitability across TIC’s diverse business operations. The Senior Finance Analyst may also provide functional oversight and guidance to finance staff involved in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.

 

Scope

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst provides high-level financial and analytical support to senior and executive management. The position works across multiple TIC companies, supporting managers with financial interpretation, operational insights, and improvement strategies. The role evaluates financial processes, ensures strong financial controls and compliance, and contributes to efficient, accurate, and timely reporting. The Senior Financial Analyst also leads or supports complex financial projects, business cases, and feasibility analyses for new ventures, contracts, or strategic initiatives.
 

Responsibilities

1.      Financial and Business Analysis

  • Conduct complex financial analyses to evaluate historical, current, and projected performance.
  • Perform budgeting, forecasting, trend analysis, and scenario modeling.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports, including variance analysis and actual-to-budget comparisons for management and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements across TIC companies.
  • Prepare consolidation reporting packages for senior leadership.
  • Analyze expenditures, revenues, operational efficiency, and overall financial results to support budgeting and planning.
  • Review financial reports with managers, confirm accuracy, and communicate findings.
  • Monitor business expenditures and profitability, identifying inefficiencies and recommending improvements.
  • Support asset tracking and ensure appropriate capitalization and depreciation processes.
  • Ensure documentation of all financial analyses, methodologies, and findings.

2.   Operational & Business Support

  • Review departmental and business processes, recommending improvements to reduce costs, generate revenue, and optimize operations.
  • Apply accounting policies and assess compliance across TIC operations.
  • Develop and maintain budget templates, forecasting models, dashboards, and analytical tools.
  • Conduct contract bid/proposal analyses, including win/loss assessments, margin evaluation, and contract profitability.
  • Complete feasibility studies for new business ventures, capital investments, major projects, or contract opportunities.
  • Provide guidance to managers on financial interpretation and introduce standardized reporting practices.
  • Liaise with community managers and subsidiary leadership to ensure financial procedures are followed consistently.

3.   Finance Operations Support (Optional Supervisory Element)

  • Provide functional guidance or supervision to staff involved in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or Payroll as required.
  • Review AP/AR processes and assist in identifying system improvements.
  • Assist with payroll oversight including review of submissions, reconciliations, and compliance reporting.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures.

4.    General Support & Special Projects

  • Contribute to corporate reporting cycles, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processes.
  • Assist with data entry and administrative tasks as required to support the finance function.
  • Lead or support special projects across TIC companies, including system improvements, audits, and policy updates.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and present findings clearly to decision-makers.
  • Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and presentation—to interact effectively with management and operational teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with financial systems; QuickBooks considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
  •  Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective internal and external working relationships.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment with cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to speak the Tłı̨chǫ language is an asset.

 

Qualifications

Typically, the above knowledge, skills, and abilities would be attained through:

  • A Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Progression toward an accounting designation (CPA) at an intermediate or advanced level is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in financial analysis, business analysis, corporate finance, or related fields.
  • Experience supporting financial operations (AP/AR/payroll) considered an asset.
