Vegetation Management Training Opportunity - Expression of Interest

Vegetation Management Training Opportunity - Expression of Interest

Through our working partnership with the Northwest Territories Power Corporation, Tłı̨chǫ Engineering & Environmental Services is seeking interested trainees from each of the four Tłı̨chǫ communities of Whatì, Wekweetì, Gamètì, and Behchokǫ̀, to partake in early-summer in a Vegetation Management training program in preparation for upcoming summer/fall projects and employment opportunities.

Training will include the following:

Brush Saw (1 day course) & Chainsaw Safety and Cutting Techniques (1 day course): this training will allow employees to work under the line and around poles when the vegetation is outside the safe limits of approach or under de-energized lines, as well as in and around structures and fence lines.

Technical Tree falling and Cutting-this training will allow a person to cut trees under the line and around poles when the vegetation is outside the safe limits of approach or under de-energized lines. This also allows you to cut trees anywhere that infrastructure isn’t at risk.

Hazard and Danger Tree Cutting and Falling-This training allows a person to cut trees under the line within the limits of approach of a de-energized line this will also allow you to cut trees where infrastructure is present (i.e.) buildings, fences, equipment as this course is strongly based on directional falling and cutting against the lean. This also allows you to cut trees outside of the easement with rope or mechanical advantage the have potential to contact the lines if the fell the wrong way. This course also touches on identifying rot and other defects within a tree.

Hazard and Danger Tree Cutting for Power Restoration- This training allows a person to cut trees that have fallen on the line or are in contact with the line or are within the safe limits of approach of a de-energized line. THIS DOES NOT ALLOW THE CUTTING OFF A TREE TOUCHING A CONDUCTOR OF A LIVE LINE. This does allow hot work if the tree is outside safe limits of approach on the service line or neutral. You also can conduct hot work of a service line from pole to home outside the safe limits of approach (i.e.) a tree in a backyard is tangled in the service line to the home. Although hand tools and insulated extendable pruners are highly recommended for this aspect of work. If ladder is required, you CANNOT USE A METAL LADDER. You must use a fiberglass or insulated ladder.

These courses are provided by Arboriculture Canada and allow trainees to continue advancing their training after these courses are completed.  These exciting and valuable courses also allow for trainees to be eligible for various employment opportunities with Tlicho Engineering & Environmental Services.
