Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance is responsible for providing a range of accounting and financial analysis support to the Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation (TIC) and its subsidiaries.  The Director of Finance role oversees the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and banking functions, recommends and implements methods for increasing efficiency and profitability, and performs business analysis on non-consolidated and consolidated entities. Incorporating all these responsibilities, the Director of Finance must apply findings to make improvement suggestions and recommendations.

 

Responsibilities

 

Financial Management and Accounting Systems:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements by applying and monitoring month-end procedures.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports with variance analyses for management and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct financial analysis and prepare detailed financial reports and statements.
  • Prepare, update, monitor, and report cash flow requirements to TIC senior management.
  • Prepare consolidated financial reporting for TIC senior management.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly debt compliance and covenant calculation reports.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate financial accounting software platforms.
  • Ensure that processes, hardware, and software are in place to automate functions.
  • Manage the maintenance and upgrade of financial and payroll information systems.
  • Update systems to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Assist management and external auditors with annual and interim audit procedures.
  • Establish and manage accounting and financial systems and maintain full and accurate accounting records.
  • Provide financial and accounting advice, direction and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with financial legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of account balances.

 

Financial and Business Analysis:

  • Supervise and mentor assigned Finance personnel and oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking functions.
  • Evaluate previous budgets, expenditures, and operational efficiency together with results of overall financial analysis to develop and implement future budgets.
  • Meet regularly with TIC management to review financial reports and present findings.
  • Conduct complex financial analysis to determine present and future performance.
  • Perform and present financial forecasting and modeling.
  • Monitor operational expenditures and profits regularly, ensuring cost-effectiveness and making recommendations to management to maximize profits.
  • Document all data and findings thoroughly.
  • Liaise with TIC and financial banking institutions, auditors, insurance providers, and other external stakeholders.

 

Operational and Business Support:

  • Provide analytical support by reviewing department processes and provide recommendations; recommendations may include cost reduction measures, revenue generation ideas, and ways to streamlining operations.
  • Prepare budget templates and forecasting tools for management.
  • Perform contract profitability analysis (ie, win/loss analysis).
  • Perform feasibility analysis for new ventures, projects, and contracts.
  • Liaise with TIC management and the Finance department.

 

Payroll Supervision/Management Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and train Payroll Officer(s).
  • Establish and apply performance measures for direct reports.
  • Oversee full payroll cycle for all TIC companies.
  • Process and manage Tlicho Management Services full payroll cycle.
  • Submit all payroll liabilities (CRA, Payroll Tax, garnishments, benefits) for all companies.
  • Complete business payroll surveys (9 per month).
  • Final review of TCL payroll; completing uploads and payments.
  • Reconcile all payroll-related accounts.
  • Complete WSCC hours reports.
  • Create ROEs.
  • Create and process T4’s.
  • Handle other payroll-related correspondence/communication/inquiries.
  • Provide suggestions/input on payroll processes.

 

General Support Functions:

  • General administrative tasks.
  • Financial data entry as required.
  • Handle and complete special projects as they arise.

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
  • Knowledge of and experience with external auditors and auditing procedures.
  • Experience working with financial systems; QuickBooks expertise is an asset.
  • Above average skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Working as part of a team including involvement in corporate planning and decision making.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to continuously meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.

  • Required to travel occasionally to all Tłı̨chǫ communities.
  • The ability to speak Tłı̨chǫ language is an asset.

 

Education and Experience requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in the Accounting field along with a CPA accounting designation and commitment to continuous professional development in the finance/accounting field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior management role in the finance/accounting field.
