Happy New Year!
Welcome back … and welcome to 2021! Happy New Year!
Firstly, I hope that everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. This has been a Christmas and New Year like none we have seen before or could have expected at the start of 2020. I think we are all looking forward to the next Christmas season when we hopefully can spend more time with our families. As we move into 2021, we need to remain diligent with our COVID prevention processes that have been established and continue to ensure that our people and families continue to remain safe and be there for each other.
As 2020 comes to a close, I’m sure we are happy to have this year in our rear-view mirror and look forward to 2021. I know that I am! We have a long way to go before returning to what things were like when 2020 started, and I am not even sure that I know that we ever will. We continue to press on. The Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation (TIC) has accomplished much this year, and though we still have many steps to take to attain the business vision which we share. 2020 was a year to achieve business stability, and this was accomplished extremely well with the help of the entire team, from the Board of Directors to every member of the corporate staff and all the business units. The next few months will continue to pose challenges for TIC and everyone across the country.
The management team is working hard to keep many ventures moving forward through completion while continuing to have a positive impact on Tłı̨chǫ employment and sustainably improving the business. The construction division continues to work on projects that are scheduled to be completed in 2021, and more new initiatives will begin. Winter road construction continues both to the communities and to the diamond mines, while the TASR project is on hold until April. There are always many initiatives in the communities, especially around store improvements, and housing. All in all, we begin 2021 very busy, and for that we should all be grateful! We have several initiatives which are to begin this year, and the development of the business continues to be one of our highest priorities.
Our progress of financial and business reporting has improved greatly over the past year, and this will continue through 2021. Teams have completed various training initiatives through 2020, and more is planned for 2021! We will continue to build a sustainable and forward-looking business through this year, and over the next several, while developing skill sets and challenging the status quo for each of the business entities. There are many potential positive situations in front of us, and we need to continue to move toward making this the business for the next several generations of Tłı̨chǫ people.
In coordination with the Board of Directors, the Executive Leadership Team, and the Senior Management Team; TIC continues to see a bright future for all involved. 2020 was a year of stabilization. 2021 is a year of improvement and growth! Continuously improving is the mark of a successful business. We continue to do our best to be a community leader across the North. This is always a challenge, and though we are indeed in a place to continue to make a positive difference.
I am very proud of my team, and the way everyone has worked through this year, and now it is important for us to move forward, make the best of what is around us, and take the necessary steps to improve.
Please continue to take good care of yourselves, and each other, and remain safe with your family through this time. I feel very positive that 2021 will lead us down a path of success and continued improvement!
Happy New Year!
